Dr Joseph Garcia Redmond is a specialist neurosurgeon with advanced training in brain tumour and skull base surgery, and Gamma Knife radiosurgery. He provides world-class care with a focus on safe, effective, and compassionate treatment.

Dr Garcia Redmond trained in neurosurgery at major hospitals in Australia and New Zealand before completing a fellowship in Skull Base and Neuro-Oncology at Toronto Western Hospital in Canada. He subsequently undertook subspecialty training in Gamma Knife radiosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States.

His areas of expertise include complex skull base tumours, meningiomas, vestibular schwannomas, pituitary tumours, metastatic brain disease, and minimally invasive spine surgery. He also performs advanced procedures such as awake craniotomy and functional mapping.

Originally from Queensland, Dr Garcia Redmond is passionate about contributing to the health and wellbeing of his local community. Outside of medicine, he enjoys time with his family, travel and sharing his children’s love of storytelling and adventure. His approach to patient care reflects this same sense of empathy, curiosity, and respect.

Education & Qualifications

Dr Joseph Garcia Redmond is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He completed a Skull Base and Neuro-oncology Fellowship at the University of Toronto and holds a Master of Neurosurgery from the University of Sydney and an Advanced Diploma in Anatomy by Dissection from UNE. Before his medical career, he studied Science and Arts at the University of Queensland, majoring in Developmental Biology and Japanese, and later pursued Film and Language Studies in Spain. He speaks Spanish and Japanese (non-fluently now) and enjoys connecting with people from different backgrounds.

Dr Garcia Redmond has a special interest in skull base and endoscopic surgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, and collaborative, patient-centred care that blends precision with compassion.

Research & Publications

Dr Joseph Garcia Redmond is actively involved in neurosurgical research, with publications on pituitary tumors, visual pathway anatomy, and skull base pathology. He is a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, the Australia and New Zealand Skull Base Society, and the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies.
